Lots of beads

This is the sashing strip between the top and bottom rows.
Again I chose the fabric that matches the six blocks best.

Time to add beads.

A green sequin fastened with a tiny transparent bead.

For large bubbles I sewed the convex side of the sequin upwards.

Bubbles on the vertical sashing strips.

One seam in a vertical sashing strip was necessairy.

Can you find the seam in the sashing strip?

The starfish is far more purple than in this picture.

Sashing strips

The final lay-out after cutting the blocks back to 40 x 40 cm.
I'm sorry the six blocks aren't completely visible. The blocks were lying on the table and I was standing on a chair to take a picture. Too bad I was not tall enough to get the whole picture.

My intention is to add sashing strips of 7 cm wide between the blocks in such a way that they form a nice transition between the blocks (seams of 1 cm included).

This fabric harmonizes best with all the blocks.
It includes pink and blueish.

This is what I mean: blueish green on the right side and soft lilac on the left side of the strip.
I sewed the sashing strip 2,5 cm from the edges of the two blocks. The actual strip will be 5 cm wide.

The top row.

The bottom row.

The backside.
The blocks fit close to each other, showing a 2,5 cm seam.

I used herringbone stitch to close the seams.
A metal ruler is laid inside to prevent sewing through the sashing strip.

The turtles

The quilted turtles block

Again Mc Kenna Ryan chose excellent fabrics for the turtle.
Just look at the shell and the lighter spot on top.

The scallop shell includes a dark background and eight  lighter parts.

Even though I tried to keep the fabric flat during the quilting process, there was an excess of fabric.

I hoped to correct that by quilting some curly waves.

It didn't work out the way I wanted.
After the next phase I will decide if I need to do something about it.

In the next phase I want to add sashing strips between and around the six blocks.
After that embellishments will be added.
